Puchong Hill Trekking_Trail Running

Note: I shall be away for holidays in Beijing / Xian for two weeks ... KC

++++++++++++

Puchong Hill (aka Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve) trekking and trail running with Zhineng Qigong members and friends on Saturday, 2 March 2013.

After many weeks of raining, the weather is getting hotter these few days; and it was a fine and sunny morning superb for some outdoor activities.

Other than the Zhineng Qigong members, we have TeeEK, Thomas, Patricia’s group joining us; together with Sik Peng and friends; Jezamine, Phoebe and friends; Munirah and friends.

This is part of the organized event in preparing qigong members for the Lucky Valley Retreat and Sungei Lembing Tour 11-13 May 2013 (“LV+LB”) where yours truly (KC Leong) is one of the Organizing Team members.

Cheers of encouragement from Cindy Lim, Shiela and LewLW ... Lee Choo (not in photo) has difficulty in walking after her operations; nevertheless, she pressed on! Supported by other friends, she managed to reach thus far and finally completed the whole course.

Puchong Hill Trekking

Trekking at Puchong Hill (or Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve) with Zhineng Qigong members and friends on Sunday, 23 Dec 2012.

A distance of 5.5km that took 2 hours for a slow and steady trekking.

As usual, I would do my trail running here, surging forward and running backtrack; after the daily rain, the trail is quite wet and muddy. Compare to the Bukit Kiara which I went the day before, it was drier there.

I met a few trail runners who could recognize me, one of them is from LYN Runners.

After trekking, the group adjourned to Puchong town for brunch, a Chinese coffeeshop recommended by KL Tan; lots of good food there.

Trekking at Air Hitam Forest Reserves

It was a special day on Saturday morning, 28 July 2012. Not only that I was leading a small group of qigong members (Zhening Qigong Malaysia) for trekking at Puchong Hill (or Air Hitam Forest Reserve Hill), it is also the start of London Olympic 2012. Gluing to the TV starting from 3:30 a.m. for a fun-filled and somewhat humorous opening ceremony, I have to stop the viewing after the appearing of Malaysian's contingent during the athletes parade.

Air Hitam Forest Reserves Hill (or Puchong Hill)

Arriving at the trail head of Puchong Hill, I was shock to see that there were so many cars there; both the entry and exit roads were parked on both sides of the road. The previous time that we came, it was closed to public by the officials of UPM for encroaching into their research area ... do click here to read.

After the negotiation by the Puchong Trekker Association, UPM decided to allow the public to trek at the outer loop. So it is everyone’s responsibility to advise those new trekkers not to venture deep into the waterfall again, and to keep the tracks clean. Otherwise, it would jeopardise all the people when UPM decides to close the forest reserves again.

 With Lai Kuan (left #3)

In this trekking group, there were a few beginners who are first exposed to trekking. One of them is Lee Choo who trekked steadily and cautiously. Two special persons that we met there: first was Lai Kuan who was doing the trail running; the second person has to be Lim Hin Chong, Past Club President of Speaker's Dream Toastmaster Club (do click here) and Past Area-Governor of Toastmasters. I first heard someone calling me; upon inquiring, LimHC said he recognized my Salomon trail running shoes even from the back view (do click here) ... :-)

As usual, I would practise my trail running while accompaning the trekkers. I would surge foward for then run backward to ensure the group is moving in the right direction.

The group completed the trekking trip by having a delicious fish head noodles in the eatery centre of Puchong new town.

We Wish to Trek at Puchong Hill Again

Attached here is a report appearing in The Star Metro dated 28 May 2012 about Ayer Hitam Forest Reserve (or we call it Puchong Hill). Located near to Bandar Putri of Puchong, the trails are shady and not too difficult for trekking, that is good for a moderate workout.

The authority of UPM, however, is not pleased and decided to close the trails recently due to following reasons:

a. disallowing trekkers to encroach into UPM's outdoor research areas as trekkers' presence are affecting their research work;

b. throwing of rubbish by inconsiderate trekkers when they trek.

If the Wawasan Trekkers Group (as in the report below) manage to persuade the authority of UPM in agreeing to reopen the trail, this time, we must be serious about their concerns: no straying into unauthorized boundaries, and we must also NOT go to the waterfall area.

Here is a funny incident told to me by Edwin Goh, a regular trail runner friend, while doing trail running at Puchong Hill last year:

When the Iranian lecturers came to UPM for some exchange programmes, the UPM lecturers were very excited wanting to show their counterparts the prized possession – a pristine and tranquil small waterfall with clear water in their research centre of Ayer Hitam Forest Research, never mind that the name and the actual colour of the water do not tally.

When they happily arrived at the waterfall area, they were shock to see some trekkers were also there happily swimming in the pool, and some were having a jolly good time enjoying picnic by the pool … :-)

Puchong Hill Trekking with Qigong Members

The Qigong (chi gong) members went for another round of trekking at Puchong Hill on Saturday morning, 14 April 2012.

Led by yours truly, this time, we trekked in clockwise direction as the previous time (on 31 March 2012), we were trekking in opposite direction.

Though this is a fairly easy hill to tackle, it is indeed a good start for the qigong members in taking up trekking.

As usually, I would do my trail running by going forward and then backtracking so that I am with the group all the time. For the group that has trekked for two hours, I would have done trail running for almost the same time.

After the trekking, we adjourned to the famous Yong Tau Foo eatery stop in Puchong. I must attest that the food there is delicious and good. The shop is located between SJK (C) Han Ming, Puchong school and Sekolah Kebangsaan Puchong Batu 14 school.

 Looks and taste really good

31 March 2012, Saturday, which was a rainy morning.

Despite the heavy rain the morning before, it rained again.

As you can see, the qigong members are determined once they have set their mind for trekking. Even the rain did not dampen their intention to trek.

Obviously, they were donning raincoats and carrying umbrellas, save for yours truly (KC) who is pro already since my record was four hours of trail running in the rain before (at Gunung Nuang) ... :-)

We started the trekking at 8:00 a.m. and successfully completed the whole loop in two hours.

Grace, who is her maiden trekking attempt, tripped a few times on the slippery ground.
