Selected Photos of PACM Dinner

What is your reaction when you see this photo? There is a guard equipped with a walky-talky (though the high-tech communication equipment is out of sync with the theme -- Wild Wild West) securing the door with signs that says:

No Weapons Past This Point!

Beware! Rattle Snakes!

My initial thought was that the organizer really made it look very real to have a guard to bring home the point.
With the "WANTED Dead or Alive" posters all over the wall, the guard could be keeping watch on the most wanted persons.

When I met Rose, she told me that someone was inside. With the camera in hand, it was like a passport to gain access through the guard. To my surprise, Tony (aka Penguin-3) was in there.

Without doubt, the star or the most attention-grabbing guy was Tony who dressed up as the Red Indian. He was the most suitable candidate due to his height and macho looking demeanour. Before I could finish taking photo for the current table, members from other tables already started to book for his appearance.

Base: Peck Yah, Corrine, Connie
Mid-level: Rose, Carol
Pyramid: Tony

The most appropriately dressed gentleman was Uncle Hooi; lady, Joanne. Photo was taken with the Club President, Mr. Munning.

Pacesetters Club AGM

Please click here to view 170 photos taken by KC (AGM and Annual Dinner)

Arriving at the Banquet Hall of Lake Club at around 2 p.m., I was indeed one of the early birds. I saw Munning, Francis Toh, Sook Ying (Club Exco) and quite a number of the members were already busy at work setting up the venue for the AGM and Annual Dinner.

I saw Tammy Lim and her group of runners’ friends were busy setting up the props on the podium and at the entrance. True to the theme, Wild Wild West, the podium was decorated much like the cowboy era – sponsored by her too. They even drag two huge oil drums up the podium.

All members were encouraged to dress up to match the theme. There were prizes for the most appropriately dressed gentleman and lady, prizes were donated by Tammy too.

The “WANTED Dead or Alive” posters with a reward of RM 1,000,000 were pasted all over the venue. I was trying to find my photo hoping to cash the amount.

Together with the hotel staff, all were busy with the duty assigned to them to set up the venue. At that moment, the air-conditioning and the light in the hall were not even switched on yet.

Computer Equipment

I was given the task to attach the PC Notebook and LCD projector and “make them work”. The purpose was to project photos of running events (taken by Chan Wing Kai, Jason Lee and yours truly) for members to view and to bring back fond memories when dinner was served.

What really worried me was that the photos of running events come in four CD-ROMs that I passed to the Club two weeks ago were not copied into the PC Notebook yet. I actually encountered read/write error when the CD-ROMs were constructed at my home PC.

Luckily that there were no errors with the four CD-ROMs and all the photos that were painstakingly identified, selected, rearranged by me earlier were successfully copied into the PC Notebook.

Next hurdle: to set up the LCD projector. I was having hard time connecting the PC Notebook and the NEC LCD projector. After much trying, I was given another newer LCD projector to try on. Bingo! I could see the images were been clearly projected on to the white screen.

Proceedings

While I was busy working on the computer stuff sitting at one corner next to the podium, more members were seen arriving for the AGM at around 3:30 p.m. The AGM was held near the entrance and located at the opposite end of the podium.

I heard from Mr. Munning, the out-going Club President, announced that the turn-up was very good with 140 members attending the AGM as compared to last year, only 20. BTW, every member who attended the AGM would receive a good quality red Brooke T-shirt jointly sponsored by Brooks and the Club.

I could see members from the floor were enthusiastically asking questions while Mr. Munning was able to answer them satisfactorily. The questions asked by the members were varied. Generally, all showed concern for the betterment of the Club. However, one question asked by a senior veteran runner was most amusing: he was correcting the usage of English that an inappropriate “of” was present in the statement.

Swift Decision

I then took my camera and assume the role of cameraman for the Club to record the proceedings of the AGM. While taking photos, I heard my name “KC Leong” was mentioned after the in-coming EXCO was elected. Before I could confirm, I was nominated and seconded. Much like running, Pacesetter members work in a swift manner. I raised my hand to decline but the Parliamentarian said it was already closed.

At that moment, I was thinking very hard much like the new PC Intel Core 2 Quad processor in processing data: do I have the time and effort to assume the committee role and serve the Club. The existing PACM Webmaster role is taking quite a lot of my time – most evening!

Before the committee members were put to vote, I stood firm to decline another time. With my back out, the four nominated committee members automatically became the committee members without having to undergo voting.

New EXCO

Below is the line-up of the new EXCO 2007/2008 for Pacesetters Club:

President - Munning Jamaluddin
Vice-Presidents - Francis Toh Chuan Guan and Rustam Affandi b. Zaihan
Secretary - Tan Swee Huah
Asst Secretary - Jagathasan Naidu
Treasurer - Foo Sook Ying
Asst Treasurer - Tan Pek Moi

Committee Members:

1. Sonny Ng Keng Hoong
2. Aplaidoo s/o Rama Nayadoo
3. Alan Ho Shao Yan
4. John Lee Yeat Lai

We wish that the new EXCO – under the leadership of Mr. Munning – is able to take Pacesetters Club to achieve greater height for another challenging year ahead.

PACM Annual Dinner

Here are the photos taken by KC during the Pacesetters Club annual dinner at the Dynasty Hotel on Saturday 18 March 2006.

Part 1 contains 93 photos, please click here to view.

Part 2 contain 72 photos, please click here to view.

The much awaited Pacesetters Club’s annual dinner was over amid serious announcement interwoven with funs and laughter. It was an evening where Pacesetters runners, sponsors and friends get together for a fun-filled and entertaining evening.

The venue for the annual dinner was held at Dynasty Hotel, Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur. The theme for the evening was blue and white. True to the theme, the setting in the hall was almost blue and white: tables and chairs, simple curtain at the entrance, even the soft drinks served during the function was blue from Pepsi Ice.

There were fewer tables with lesser turn-outs compared to last year. I presume Saturday 18 March 2006 was clashing with Formula 1 happenings and another famous pop group from Hong Kong was performing at Genting Highlands.

The dinner was the most appropriate occasion to announce the new line-up of the EXCO which was just been nominated and accepted a few hours earlier at the same venue. I was sitting at the same table with the capable SH Tan and she assumed two roles: Secretary and Footloose editor.

Annual dinner is also the perfect place to give reorganization to those outstanding runners and appreciation to the sponsors which support the Club for staging numerous running events. Equally important was the get together of the members for the camaraderie.

One of the highlights of the evening was the selection of finalist for Pacesetters Idol. Arising from the qualifying rounds, five finalists were identified from the earlier screening. The five of them were: Jacky Lo, Low Kim Houn, Garrette Yap, Ng Wei Han and Miss Crystal. At one time, the four guy idols were sitting together in one table. That seemed like the four heavenly singers can rival the pro in Hong Kong.

The most hilarious moment was the performance of Elvis and Wong Fei Hong by Alden Yap and Kelvin Ng respectively. Their performance had the audience in stitches when Elvis’s fly was opened and Wong Fei Hong had to sidetrack to assist him to zip up his pants.

Prelude to PACM AGM & Annual Dinner

Hi gals and guys, the Pacesetters Club’s (PACM) annual dinner is just around the corner. So, have you done the necessary preparation for this occasion? No, you do not have to do extra long runs; that would have been sufficient with the passing of KLIM 2006 more than a week ago. The preparation I am referring is about looking beautiful or smart for this dinner event. It is time to relax and reward ourselves for participating in numerous races and countless training runs.

The Pacesetters Club’s annual dinner is on this Saturday 18 March at Dynasty Hotel, Jalan Ipoh, 7pm. And the AGM is on same day, same venue starting at 3pm.

The theme for that evening is Blue and White and the dress code is smart casual with collar. There are quite a number of variations as to how you could achieve these results: you could dye your hair blue and wear white shirt and white pants (attire for guys). That would be meeting requirement of the theme.

Alternatively, you could dye your hair white and you wear all blue clothing. Then there is the split personality type: dye your hair half blue and white; get a shirt of half white and blue. Another simple method is to wear the white Bata shoes when we attent schools last time. As you can see, achieving the theme would be quite easy.

Imagine on that evening, all that you see would either be blue or white. If there were other functions going on, we could be mistaken for navy military crew – where the uniform is also white and blue – having a celebration there.

Oh Yes! I would be taking photos on that evening. I am really excited to see how you gals and guys look other than in running vests and shorts. I believe that you would look much “leng chai” or “leng lui” (handsome guy and pretty gal) compared to when you are donning running apparels.

One request: I would appreciate it if you could shout "KC" when I am holding the camera trying to find someone to take photo. You know, I am a little shy also holding the camera walking around just like those guys selling life insurance policies looking for prospects. However, please don’t snap your finger as though you are attracting attention from waiter/waitress as that would give rise to false alarm and may actually confuse the waiter/waitress.

For those who have not got the tickets in hand, please do a final confirmation with your Team Leaders to secure the entrance tickets. It would be anti-climax having done full preparation for the dinner only to find out that you were not allocated with any ticket.

I remembered many years ago, I attended a Toastmasters Convention at the Palace of the Golden Horses Hotel in Kuala Lumpur. The free flow of beer was served at a subsidized rate. With the presence of beer, the spirits were having lifted in that occasion. I could see the alcohol really enhanced the already fluent public speaking capability of members, and Yam Seng was heard echoing the whole banquet hall.

Do you think beer would be served at discounted rate in this dinner? Better not; runners are health conscious lot. I believe many of the runners would need to start their next race 7 hours after the end of the dinner – The Power Run on Sunday 19 March, of which I would compromise on running and would be there to take photos again.

See ya. Have an enjoyable and fun-filled evening.

PACM Annual Dinner

The PACM (Pacesetters Athletic Club Malaysia) AGM & Annual Dinner will be held soon. The details for annual dinner are as follows:

Date: Saturday, 18 Mar 2006
Time: 7pm
Venue: Dynasty Hotel, Jalan Ipoh, Kuala Lumpur.
Theme: Blue & White
Dress Code: Smart casual with collar
Tickets: RM45 (adults), RM20 (12 years and below)

Tickets are available from Jamie Pang or Area Team Leaders. Based on last year's good responses, this year should be just as fun. The selection of finalists for PACM Idols will also be held on the same night.

This is an eight-course, sit-down Chinese dinner of halal type. One of the runners in my group who is good in savouring cuisine said that the food in Dynasty Hotel is good. RM45 is a very reasonable fees considering that Ang Pow for wedding dinner held in hotel is double or triple this amount nowadays.

Here is another reason that we should go: we use to see our running friends in running vests and shorts. For a change, this will be the occasion that everyone is dressed up beautifully or smartly. And for the ladies, we could be mesmerized by their stunning beauty with the evening dresses.

Last year, a few of the enthusiastic runners were invited on stage to become the impromptu backup singers and dancers that gained much applause from the audiences. So, be prepared if the same invitation is made this year.

I have informed Jamie Pang that I volunteer to take photos and to assist Chan Wing Kai (Club's photographer) for wider coverage. So, please smile for the camera, will ya?

PACM will have a booth at KLIM this Sunday 5 March 2006. Interested parties can "kau tim" everything (complete all transactions) at that one-stop centre: register for annual dinner and register for participation in PACM Idols.
