Fuji Dinner and Karaoke

I am please to informed that the much awaited post-Mount Fuji dinner shall be held on this Saturday 2 October. After months of planning in ensuruing that the full team can meet again, the actual day is now drawing near.
.
Not only that we have the participation of the full team, we also have four invited guest trekkers to join us in this dinner and karaoke session. They are Fiona (EBC), Leng, Rose and Angeline. We shall all sit together in a mega table that can accomodate 16 persons. Thanks to Jayne Aw for making the reservation. Here is the menu for the evening.

Menu:
1. Crispy Dragon Beard Roll & Crispy Prawn with Wasabe Sauce
2. Double-boiled Coral Fish's Fin Soup with Chicken
3. White Tuna Fish Fillet with Pomalo Sauce
4. Roasted Suckling Lamb Hong Kong Style
5. Braised Seasonal Vegetables
6. Fried Rice with Shrimp Paste
7. Aloe vera sea coconut
8. Thousand Layered Sponge Custard

Note: The poultry-based ingredents have been changed for a more pleasant reading ... :-)

In this gathering, I am sure the group would discuss and plan for the next Mount Fuji Japan trekking trip again in view of the aborted mission due to bad weather. Click here for all posting on Mt Fuji Trekking (July 2010).

A few days ago (23 - 26 September 2010), Air Asia just launched the maiden Moshi Moshi trip to Tokyo with an amazingly low fare of RM 99 one way. Well, they really live up to their name that now everyone can fly. I am sure more people will go to Japan to see the sakura in full bloom (in April), climbing up Mount Fuji (in July/August) or running in Tokyo Marathon (in February), etc.

Cleaning Camera Made Easy

On Sunday 19 September 2010, Shukri was invited to Putrajaya's Presint 6 Water Sports Complex to take photos for Luke Thomas, a famous water-skier from UK. Though Shukri has been taking water-skiing events a few times, being on the speed boat taking the water-skier in action was truly a new experience. The challenging moments were to zero-in on the subject and the speed boat started to bounce on choppy water created by the undulating waves.

Background showing Putrajaya's Presint 6 Water Sports Complex

When the photo shoot was over, a photographer from another speed boat said he wanted to wash his camera. Without hesitation, he was dipping his Olympus E-3 SLR into the lake much to the shock or amazement of other onlookers near to the Water Sports Complex.

A daring move ... notice the bubbles surging to the water surface

This is extracted from the Olympus website about Olympus E-3:

Pursuance of high image quality, mobility and reliability. A digital SLR camera that answers the demanding requirements of photographers, withstanding severe conditions while pursuing high quality image, mobility, and reliability.

Usage in demanding environments is made possible with the OLYMPUS E-3 through the dust proof and water proof magnesium alloy body that can withstands severe conditions.

After reading the above claims, looks like only the body is water proof but did not mention about the lens.

According to Shukri, he saw bubbles surging to the water surface when the whole unit is submerged into the water. Looks like there is a misinterpretation of the features by the owner of this camera. Okay, be prepared for an expansive repair ... :-)
Here are the photos of the previous waterski event (July 2010) extracted from Shukri's photo album.

Photo Shoot and Climbathon Training (2)

It was a day of intense activity amid fun and laugher at Gunung Gunung on Saturday, 18 September 2010 in preparing for the Mount Kinabalu Climbathon on 23 Oct 2010.
.
Not all the Mt KK Climbathon participants are present though we have 24 runners turned up for the training. We were honoured to invite Jason Lee who came all the way just to take photos for us.
.
Other than taking the group photos, the fun part was taking the action shots where the shooting was NG (No Good) a few times. We spent almost 30 minutes in the photo shoot and we started the training at 8:00 a.m., half hour behind schedule.

Almost all the guy runners know the trail very well as we have been training at Gunung Nuang several times. The ladies were led by PY who has been training there a few times before. I was told that due to a wrong stream crossing, part of the lady team members were not able to connect to the proper trail to go up the mountain. As such, much time was lost to find the correct path. By the time 3.5 hours were up, they could only arrive at Camp Pacat.

Middle: TeeEK, LimKK, Steven, Gilbert, Lim FW, Ronnie, ChooTS, Chiew Hong, LeongWW
Back: Edwin Goh, Tee, Jason Lee, Jason Thiang, Faisal, Weng, KC
.
Edwin Goh and KK Lim are the fastest in the group clocking 2 hr 42 min to arrive at the peak. Gilbert and LeongWW arrived at the False Peak and did not proceed to the actual peak. The second group arrived at the peak exactly at 3.5 hours. They were ChooTS, Chiew Hon, Jason Thiang, KC and Johar.

We were amazed when we realised that Johar was on puasa that day. Imagine we were drinking 2 litres of water to keep us hydrated plus a few bars of energy food to sustain the energy. Johar was not drinking and eating at all. Well, that is really mind over matter !!

The group still has another 5 weekends for training before engaging on the Mount Kinabalu Climbathon. The next two locations for training would be Pine Tree Trail at Fraser’s hill and Batu Caves.
