Final training at Batu Caves

The steps training at Batu caves on Saturday, 15 October 2011 mark the final training before we take on the Mount Kinabalu Climbathon challenge on 22 October 2011.

It was a last minute change of venue from Gunung Nuang as this is supposed to be a safe and easy training (since we have come thus far in training).

A few of the other participants are doing their trainings at Apek Hill and Gunung Nuang also.

We tried to offer our help much to the appreciation of his lady group members who said that we are very helpful and kind.

Batu Caves Steps Training

The steps training at Batu Caves on Saturday morning, 13 August 2011 was staged as planned, minus the presence of yours truly (KC) ... :-)

Here are the photos by courtesy of ChooTS. After a downpour the evening before, all outdoor activities on the following morning would be nice and cool, and the air would be fresh.

On Friday (12 Aug), my lunch kaki and I went to an Indian restaurant near Putrajaya to eat Indian food for lunch. Three hours after that, I felt cold and shivering in the office, never before I felt that cold. Then the slight fever came at night. I sent out notification informing the rest that I could not go for the steps training. Then I have the diarrhea on Saturday - I think I have mild food-poisoning. If you refer to page 37 in today’s Sunday Star about Typhoid Fever, a few of the symptoms do sound similiar, though on a lesser scale.

On a lighter note, if that lunch did not take place, then there should have another photo here savouring the Indian specialties at the eatery centres within the compound of Batu Caves.

Mount Kinabalu Climbathon - 5th Training

The 5th climbathon training was held at Batu Caves again. Not only that it is a good ground to condition one's muscles in going the mountain, the other reason was to avoid going into jungle during the Chinese Hungry Ghost month. It may sound funy or superstitious; nevetheless, planning for group event, it is good to take note of special event and avoidance of it.

Training at Batu Caves (2)

I was awoken by the sound of thunder and continual flashes of lightning this morning at 4:45 a.m., a little earlier than my usual time to wake up. I was thinking: not raining again as last Sunday (6 Sept), it was also raining heavily for hours just before we went for the Bukit Tabur trek. I hope the rain did not deter other trekkers from going for the training at Batu Caves this morning, Sunday 13 September.

This morning, all those that have indicated to participate in the training actually came. I got to meet Irene Ng and her team of trekkers; Su, AB Tan and Rose Chin.

After the morning rain, the air was clean and the environment was calm with many pigeons flying around enjoying the fresh air too.

Most of us did 10 loops while AB Tan is doing 20 loops.

This time, the topics of discussion focus more on the EBC treks: the journey and the trekking gear. Jayne Aw showed us her newly bought hat, down jacket and the compressible plastic bag (called Smart Bag).

Training at Batu Caves

Countdown to Mount Everest Base Camp (EBC) trekking trip = 27 Days

The Magnificent 7 (with PK Chan having the yow yeng pose)

This time, the training was scheduled at the 272 steps of Batu Caves. It was indeed a challenging endeavor to go up the steps in quick succession. It was tough in the first round with the calf muscles became stiff and tired very quickly. The descent was easier but one has to be careful as the platform for the steps are slightly smaller. After three loops, we could feel our legs were wobbling and we need a few more loops to stabilize them.
. (L-R): Sharon Tan, Shirley, yours truly KC, Rocky Dan, Mak, PK Chan, Carol, Jayne.

The team marches down the steps

There are three path way of steps leading to the caves. So Shirley Quah has a good approach to remember the number of loops one has completed: first path way for Loop #1; second path way for Loop #2; third path way for Loop #3. The fourth loop will repeat at first path way.
.
When the training was done, the team went for refreshment at a nearby Indian stall selling plenty of fresh coconut drinks. It was indeed a nice experience sipping the refreshing drinks amid laughter and good camaraderie.
