While waiting for the rest of the trekkers to emerge from the trail, Chey informed me that he would go to the bungalow first to see whether the preparation was ready. He actually called the caretaker earlier from the peak of Pine Tree Trail.
When the group emerged from the trail, it was already 4 p.m. (Saturday 31 May 2008). Some of the trekkers drove back to Kuala Lumpur while some proceeded to the bungalow.

Other than Chey, Tony is the only person who knew the way to the bungalow. When reaching the Children Playground, we made an abrupt left turn. Not far away, I saw the famous and cozy Ye Olde Smokehouse was on my left. I have been there once for an expensive high tea after my first trekking trip at Pine Tree Trail. Click here and here to read the report. Further down, we made a right turn and I could see a big bungalow situated on a small hill top. Next to the gate was the sign “RHB Bank”.

RHB Bank Bungalow
The RHB Bank bungalow was well furnished and nested within the huge compound of pleasant green and surrounded by age-old trees. With the stone exterior walls, it gave the rustic charm of a country lifestyle.
The spacious living and dining room combination with immaculate interior created an entertaining environment to enjoy with friends and family. It has a spacious lounge with sofas and chairs for comfortable seating of at least 20 persons. There was a 33-inch colour television complete with ASTRO satellite network station; a DVD player and audio sound system.
.
The three spacious bedrooms, each completed with huge bathroom, were having their own colour theme: blue, yellow and orange that suit the visitors’ preference.
The sense of peace and tranquility prevails once we were at the bungalow. After almost five hours of trekking, it was indeed refreshing to relax there..

We just laze around chatting with one another. The most talked about topic was the recent trekking at Annapurna Base Camp. It was indeed a pleasant feeling able to rekindle that memorable trip. Of course, it also led to the next trekking trip: upgrading to Everest Base Camp. Click here
.Breakfast on Sunday 8:30 a.m. - Cynthia (left), Jason (yellow), Chey (right)
There was lots of food to eat brought by the trekkers. In the evening, we have a simple but delicious dinner cooked by the caretaker. I was taking my time to savour the food and the delicious chicken soup. When I finished the dinner at around 8:30 p.m., Chey suggested that we adjourned to the nearby teh tarik stall. So, immediately after dinner, we walked in starry night sky to the nearby stall amidst the fresh cool air of Fraser’s Hill. Tony brought a unique, flat LCD torchlight slightly bigger than the size of a CD. It has many LCD light-bulbs on it that resembled the mouth-piece barrel of a Rambo’s machine gun.
At the stall, even ordering the drink was full of fun yet quite confusing. Well, the basic flavour of Coffee, Teh, Milo, Horlicks and Nescafe was made complicating with different mixture: Tony was explaining to us that Nes-lo is Nescafe mixed with Horlicks; while Mi-ho is Milo mixed with Horlicks. So I asked Tony what if Coffee is mixed with Teh? So he said it is “cham” (mix). So applying the same methodology, I said it should be Kor-teh (sounded like kotek, man’s genital in Malay). All have a good laugh.

We returned to the bungalow at 10 p.m. Guess what would be the next activity? Well, LimKH brought three bottles of red wine for celebration and we were having good times again sipping wine.
A few of the trekkers planned to camp outside. But when at nightfall, it was quite cold and we abandoned the plan.
Trekking at Pine Tree Trail was pleasant as it is cooling high up in Fraser’s Hill. To put up a night in RHB’s Bungalow was indeed the icing on the cake which made the trip even much more memorable.

Next morning, we have nasi lemak, roti canai telur and sponge (sifon) cake for breakfast. Thereafter, we walked around the compound and the surrounding areas. A few of the trekkers went to the nearby trail.
We checked out at 12 noon and we proceeded to Ulu Yam en route to Kuala Lumpur. Yes, you guessed it right! We were having lunch there at the famous loh mee restaurant. And we have another round of feast. As one trekker commented, looks like we replenished the food lots more than the calories that we burnt away during the previous day’s trekking.

It was truly a fun and memorable trip. We shall plan to trek in Fraser’s Hill again. Thanks to Chey for booking the RHB Bank bungalow.
