Larian 10km Utusan Bangi

Work is in progress to process photos for PJ Half Marathon taken by Jason Lee; Kuala Lumpur Executive Rat Race by Chan Wing Kai. Stay tune ...

If the Malacca Half Marathon was monopolized by the Kenyan Runners and other foreigners, then Larian 10km Utusan Bangi which was held on the same day was a totally different affair. As the race was opened to Malaysians only, it was a great day to see all the podium winners were Malaysians.

High points :
1) Good turnout despite the heavy rain before start of the run
2) Good signage on the route
3) Good control of traffic by police traffic
4) Ample drinks for everybody: 100plus and Milo

Low points:
1) Mixed up of medals at the finishing line. All medals ( 6th -30th) has the position printed at the back. When Lai SB finished her 10km run in medal position, organizer couldn’t find the medal for her. Obviously they have mistakenly given it away to somebody else. They will re-print and contact her once it is ready.

2) Prize giving ceremony :- too long. Race ended way before 9am but the ceremony was only after 11.30am. The lucky draw and singing were too lengthy.

3) All winners had to queued up at the Utusan Building for their cash prize and there was only 1 person manning the whole process from checking the ic, writing down details to counting and dispensing cash. There were 13 category and 5 top winners from each category were entitled to cash prize. So, you can just imagine how long the whole process takes.

Highlights/humor:
1. A short peaceful protest by some of the top Malaysian runners on some running events monopolized by Kenyan runners. The protests were written on Manila cardboards to Datuk Azalina, our Sports Minister to do something about the syndicate on these Kenyan runners and help Malaysian runners.

2. The race official in charge of the Prize Giving ceremony was adamant that all winners must wear their running shoes. No sandals/slippers allowed. It was a case of ‘No running shoes, prize giving ceremony no go’…. So, whether you are Yuan Yu Fang or R Muniandy, there will be no exceptions. One of the winners wanted to borrow my running shoes but unfortunately her shoe size is 3 size bigger than mine….:p Her car was parked a distance away from the venue.
