FRIM Chor 3 Jin Wan Outing

Gong Xi Gong Xi ... a joyous Chor 3 Jin Wan outing at FRIM Kepong on Saturday, 21 February 2015.

Jin Wan in Cantonese means to energize one’s luck in the Lunar New Year. Many years ago during Chinese New Year, I was running around Salem High Country (in FRIM) with a few trail runner friends. After exchanging auspicious greetings to two uncles there who were doing their morning walk, they suggested to me that it is good to “jin” (go one round the foothill of Salem High Country), signifying Jin Wan. When I was small, jin wan means my mother would bring me along to a temple to pray during Chinese New Year. So for trekkers and trail runners, we have to sweat it out to Jin Wan.

To make things more challenging, we have the trekking and trail running groups both started at the same time but from different locations. Led by Lee Wai Yin, the trekking group started from Taman Botani Kepong. The trail running group was led by ChongYF and yours truly from the FRIM Clubhouse. The two groups eventually met at the foothill of Salem High Country before we Jin Wan together.

Gunung Bunga Buah Hiking

Trekking at Gunung Bunga Buah of Goh Tong Jaya, Genting Highlands on Saturday 31 January 2015 … After the previous evening's rain, it was misty in the morning; and a fine weather amid cool environment of the high mountains for the entire day of trekking.

About 45 minutes before arriving at the peak, resting at the Rock Garden under a shady and cool place was really relaxing with the view of Genting Highlands, Chin Swee Caves Temple and Awana from the opposite mountains.

One way to the peak at moderate pace took about four hours. The entire trail was trekked under shades, only about 15 minutes of the time that one exposed to hot sun in the afternoon.

It was a satisfying outdoor event, and the most happy ending was having a sumptuous and delicious meal at Goh Tong Jaya at 6:00 p.m. before we descended Genting Highlands.

Emerging from the farm land (requiring about 15 minutes of uphill climb) and connect to the abandon tar road. The direction to Gunung Bunga Buah is on the right of photo frame; follow the tar road (on the left of photo frame) would lead one to the roundabout near to Hotel Seri Malaysia. Posing for photo: Wendy Chiam, Shu, Goh and Choo.

Many wild orchid lining the trail

Reclamation power of nature ... the abandon old tar road leading to Genting Highlands, now only a trail

Beginning of the uphill climb to the peak of Gunung Bunga Buah. On the left of the photo frame is the end of the tar road (passable for trekkers). Posing for photo: ChongYF, Josephine, and George.

Genting Higlands is clearly visible from the Rock Garden

At the peak ... for normal pace, it takes about 4 hours to reach here.

ChongYF brewing coffee and tea at the Rock Garden area. This area is shady, breezy and cooling, good for a peaceful retreat. This trail is comparable to Pine Tree Trail which is cooling, minus the long travelling journey to Fraser’s Hill.

Happy feeling of Lana after having arrived at the peak and returned safely

Mission Accomplish! ..Another group photo (at the quarry area) before we adjourn for late lunch at Goh Tong Jaya

A sumptuous and delicious 8-dish meal at 6:00 p.m. in one of the restaurants at Goh Tong Jaya. The food was fantastic and the price is reasonable: RM 22 per pax. (another nice dish is hidden behind the fish).
