Flowers Blooming

Moving around USJ Subang, one would see a number of Tabebuia Rosea trees in full bloom. If Japan has its sakura trees, USJ has the Tabebuia Rosea trees (though in much smaller scale).

Known locally as pokok kertas tisu, when in bloom, the trees would be fully covered with flowers with few or no leaves, and the fallen withered flowers turn the ground into a bright and colourful carpet.

Every time I see flowers, this statement that was told to me by my supervisor would come to my mind: "Do spend some time to smell the flowers."

Locals believe that when the flowers start to fall, it marks the end of the dry season. With the heavy rains for the past few days, look like the phenomenon is quite true.

Aiya, like that going for trekking would expect more wet ground

. . A few years ago, the full bloom occurred sometime around 22 August. Looks like they bloom twice a year.

In Full Bloom - Part 3

I do not know what happen in 2007 that I did not take any photos of flowers in USJ. Nevertheless, from the two dates above, we should start paying attention of flowers blooming after, say, 22 August.

Long time ago, while we (my office colleagues and I) were in the thick of action (staying back after office hours) to complete a computer project, my supervisor came to us one evening and said, " ... do spend some time to smell the flowers." Well, I did not take his remarks seriously. Many years lapsed ... in 2006, I realized that the flowers in Subang Jaya were in full bloom. And I decided not only to smell the flowers, I took photos of those flowers that are not within reach... :-)

When the flowers fall on to the ground in great abundance, the bottom of the trees will be strewned with a magic carpet of flowerbed. The white flower is called White Cedar or White Wood (I got the names from a write-up in the Star newspaper many weeks ago).

The other type of pink flower is called Pink Poui – what a beautiful name. With the 'trumpet like' shape, these flowers float beautifully down to the ground when the wind blows.

Simply beautiful! USJ Subang Jaya is in bloom! Pink and white trumpet trees are flowering profusely in various part of USJ, giving the township a fresh spring look during the current dry and wet weather.

They are commonly called trumpet trees because their flowers resembled trumpets. With the spectacular abundance of pinkish or white flowers, the trees are a welcome sight to town folks.

In some cases, the trees are devoid of leaves and are a simply a riot of flowers just like the cherry blossom in bloom, or much like the Sakura flowers in Japan. The blossoms also created a beautiful carpet of flowers on the ground when they drop.

The scientific name for those trees with pink flowers is tabebuia rosea while those that produced white flowers is called tabebuia pentaphylla.

Not all the trumpet trees are in full bloom. I presume the others were not ready or they have not reached the maturity level yet. Just like in running, some may cross the finishing line faster than the others.

In Full Bloom

Long time ago, my boss who is a marathon runner, after seeing me staying back late and working very hard, told me, “KC, take some time off to smell the flowers.” So, on Saturday morning, not only that I did smell the flowers, I took photos of them too.

It is nice to wake up late not having to go to work on Saturday morning. Thanks to the five-day workweek just implemented since 1 February 2006 for bank employees. After a satisfying roti canai and teh tarik breakfast at Nasi Kandar Di Kayu, USJ, I equipped with my camera and drove around within the USJ neighborhood seeking for beautiful flowers.

Generally, most flowers here are of yellow, red, white and purple. Complemented by the sky, we have the blue too.

I am lucky to live in USJ as MPSJ (Municipal Council Subang Jaya) put in a lot of effort to beautify the township by planting plenty of trees and flowers.
