Bukit Kutu Hiking

Trekking at Bukit Kutu on a fine Saturday on 5 March 2016 ... it has been a dry season since Chinese New Year on 8 Feb; with the dry spell, it is devoid of leeches this time. This hill is gaining popularity based on the number of trekkers visiting this mountain. The trails are getting wider for a clear trail to the peak. The trail immediately after crossing the river has a new, wider and direct path to the peak.

 A group photo before the start of the hiking trip ... Arriving at the car park at 8:00 a.m., the parking is already full, so is the side of the road lined until the suspension bridge. With cars parked at both sides of the road, certain parts are just too narrow for the passage of bigger vehicles

 (Immediately after the river crossing) The new and more direct route is heading toward the yellow signboard; turning left (where the trekker with blue T-shirt stands) is the old route. It is like a letter D: taking the left route would have to go through longer and narrow trails.

Bukit Kutu Trekking

Trekking at Bukit Kutu with RHB colleagues and friends on Saturday, 4 July 2015 ... For the past few weeks, the weather was hot and dry. So planning a trekking trip at Bukit Kutu would be good as one can dip in the cool water after descended from the mountain. 

After without rain for many days, it started to rain heavily in the early morning resulted a wet crossing in the stream. With the wet ground, worst still, the trail was infested with leeches. 

It was a fantastic outing with an excellent group of company amid a cloudy sky in the morning. After descent from the mountain, we dipped in the cool water as planned, and completed the event with a sumptuous late lunch at 5:30 p.m. at Hulu Yam Baru.

Bukit Kutu @ KKB

RHB Mount Kinabalu Team went for another group training and teambuilding session on Saturday, 28 Sept 2013; this time, the team was trekking at Bukit Kutu, Kuala Kubu Baru. 

To celebrate RHB 100th Year Anniversary, 40 selected staff from RHB Group shall trek to the summit of Mount Kinabalu in the week of 28 October 2013.

The bungalow was built by British authorities for their staffs (e.g. Tony's grandfather) for recreation and relaxation on weekends and holidays. Tony's grandfather and grandmother used to stay in the bungalow during the 1920s and took pictures of the bungalow.

“How does Rambo Chan look like?” Fiona asked me while the group is having breakfast at a Chinese noodle stall opposite the Post Office of Kuala Kubu Baru, Selangor. Since I have not met Rambo Chan, so I quipped, “He looks like Rambo without the bandana and without the ammunition.”

After a few weeks of planning, organizing and communicating with trekkers via emails, I was pleased to see that most of the team members arrived at Kuala Kubu Baru on time on Saturday, 11 July 2009 at 7:30 a.m.

When we arrived at the starting point, to my surprise, the number is much more than I expected – 52 members!! I believe the size of the team has something to do with Rambo Chan and Rocky Dan (Dr. Hamdan) who are the G.Kutu main Team Lead and co-Team Lead respectively.

This trail has all the adventure of a jungle trekking: crossing streams, climbing over obstacles of falling tree, crawling below fallen bamboo stems, and to climb up the big rocks at the peak of Gunung Kutu for a better panorama view.

Though it is humid at the lower plain, it is breezy and cool at the peak. I could hear a few trekkers commented that it is cold when still in wet T-shirts.

The stream of Gunung Kutu is one of the best that I have seen. The water is clear with sand covering the bed of the stream. This is ideal for a dip after a few hours of trekking. On the descent journey, playing water in the stream was really fun.

It was really a wonderful trekking trip trekking up Gunung Kutu. The origin of this name is puzzling as there were no kutu (fleas) in this trail other than leeches.

The grand finale of the G.Kutu trekking trip was going for the sumptuous dinner (in Ulu Yam) amid good company before we headed home via the scenic reservoir route.

Special thanks to Rambo Chan and Rocky Dan for leading the pack to the peak. They have to lay the paper trail and clear the obstacles along the path. Not forgetting ChooTS who help to tag the red markers only to realised that the two rolls of tapes – bought by me – ran out of material only half way mark. Special thanks to the Transport Directors (drivers) or the Unit Heads for taking care of each unit. Of course, the trekking trip would not be fun and memorable if without YOU.
