Tour du Mont Blanc (Part 1)

The Tour du Mont Blanc or TMB is one of the classic and most popular long-distance trekking trails in Europe. It circles the Mont Blanc mountains ranges, covering a distance of roughly 170 km with 10 km of ascent/descent and passes through parts of Switzerland, Italy and France. The circular route is normally walked in a counter-clockwise direction in 11 days. It is also the route of an annual mountain marathon, Ultra-Trail du Mont-Blanc (UTMB), in which the winner normally covers the entire distance in less than 24 hours (source: internet).

Activities in this photos album (12-13 July 2019):

(1) Staying and walking around Chamonix, France;
(2) Briefing by the trekking agent;
(3) Visit Aiguille du Midi peak (3,842m);
(4) Visit Mer de Glace ice cave.

The actual trekking would start on 14 July 2019.

Revisit Waterfall of Apek Hill

Hiking Apek Hill via Sansui Trail, and connected to the waterfall on Saturday, 6 July 2019 ... Since the day I was introduced to the Watergate extended trail of Apek Hill on 7 April 2018 (one year ago), I have been leading the hiker buddies to hike this trail for 12 consecutive times.

During one of the hikes in heavy rain recently, we cut short the distance by using Sansui Trail to Station 5; I reckon that it was good for us to go back to the waterfall again. So this time, we hiked via Sansui Trail and connected to the waterfall, and emerged at Saga Hilltop station.

Estimated timing:
Watergate Extended Trail - trailhead fruit stall to Saga Hill top = 3 hours;
Waterfall Trail - 15 minutes shorter.

We managed to savour the excellent durians from the durian plantation belonging to the brother-in-law of Ms Anah.

Special thanks to Anah and TC Chor who have been our guides, taking us around for food and sightseeing – the hospitality of Penang people is amazing and excellent!!

Back-to-back Hike Training

Back-to-back training at Apek Hill Cheras in preparation for the 11-day Mont Blanc trekking in July 2019.

Day 1 Saturday 22 June 2019 – It started to rain at 7:15am when we were about to start from the fruit stall at Cheras Awana. Nevertheless, the show must go on! We braced for rain and continue the hiking. The original plan was to hike via Watergate extended trail, but due to the slippery ground, we decided to cut short the distance by going through Sansui Trail and connect to Station 5.

Day 2 Sunday 23 June 2019 – we went to hike Apek Hill again via the Watergate extended trail. It was a fine weather, superb for outing. With the rain yesterday, the air was fresh and the ground was soft but not muddy. As usual, from trailhead to Saga Hill top took 3 hours. With the rest and chat at Saga Hill top, and until we returned to trailhead fruit stall, it would be 5 hours round trip. We have our lunch at the EconSave food-court. When we returned home in our comfortable car at 1:30 p.m., it started to rain heavily – so this time, we were lucky (as compared to Day 1's hike in the rain).
