MK 2 - the comedy goes on

Yours truly (KC) at the Actors Studio @ Bangsar Shopping Centre
.
A group of 20 toastmaster members from Speakers’ Dream Toastmasters Club went to support the opening show of Monti and Logi on Thursday 8 January 2009. Yes, we have a good and hearty laugh watching the comedy performance – Malaysia Kini 2 – which Monti and Logi are really good at.

It was a continuous laugher of 90 minutes with no break during performance. The laughter is contagious and at times causing secondary ripple effect – the other audiences laugh because of some funny laughter in the hall.
.(L-R): Part of the members - Rudy, KohTL, MokSP, Mee Yee, Jessica, LimHC
.
Logi, acted by Distinguish Toastmaster K. Loghandran, is a World Award Winner in Public Speaking. click here and here. He is excellent in mimicking the voice of past Work Ministry, Datuk Seri Samy Velu. The favourite quote from Logi’s past performance is “Where There is a Will, There is a Highway (way)!”

In MK2, there is one part where a philosopher Swami Mahaguru Shockalingam (acted by Logi) who is back from India with his assistant Elvis Laddubonda (acted by Monti) to teach his students on what is life and try to understand why some people behave the way they do.

Interwoven in the scene is the chanting by Swami: La Ipsa loquita… Veni vidi vici … Lambada … Lavida loca … La prima Italia … Caveat emptor … Cest la vie …

Of course, the Swami also comments on the Malaysian politics sex video of Choi Soi Lek. One of the funniest moments is that Swami revealed that he is actually Samy Velu. Due to bad time, he has to change to survive. As you can see, the chants are actually Latin, French and legal words.

Partial synopsis of MK2

This is a collection of short comedies that tell the story of Malaysians coming back to the country, how the country has changed and some finding ways to adapt to the life. It starts of with a comparison of 2008 and 2009

The Landslide of Bukit Antarabangsa.

Paul Kok returning to Malaysia after many years working in Singapore. After being retrenched he comes back to find his life here in Malaysia. He met up with his old friend Peter Kok at a snooker parlor to explore opportunities in this country.

Dr Chua and Samy velu

We also have two fathers who migrated from India and China and how they make it in this land of opportunity and how they observe the Idiosyncrasies of life – to stay or migrate to Singapore.

Penang Bridge Marathon 2009

Click here to read latest postings on Penang Bridge Marathon 2009.
.
After running in the Penang Bridge Marathon on Sunday 16 November 2008, I receive Visit Penang Newsletters from the organizer periodically. It is indeed an excellent idea for the organizer to promote Penang by sending newsletters to the runners whom they have the email address while registering online.

I like the good personal touch of having an email in my mailbox and I just have to click it (without much thinking), and a world of information unfold before my eyes.

One particular event that I am of interest is the Penang Bridge International Marathon (PIM) 2009. So from the Event Calendar, it is slated to be held on Sunday 22 November 2009, almost clashes with Singapore International Marathon to be scheduled on 6 December 2009 – two weeks after. So for most runners, it is either PIM or SIM.

20092009 – I was excited when I first heard from Dory (click here) that immediately after the PIM 2008, the next marathon would be held on Sunday 20 September 2009 with a stylish numerical representation of 20092009. However, after checking with the calendar for holidays in 2009, that day coincides with Hari Raya Puasa.
.

According to Peggy Tan, Personal Secretary to YB Danny Law for Penang State Tourism Development, Culture, Arts & Heritage, in an email correspondence, she wrote, "The date for PIM is Sunday 22 November 2009. We know about the Singapore Marathon; however, we have no choice but to keep to November's date due to our Penang Bridge expansion which is expected to complete by August 2009. In 2010, the date will be moved back to June."

This is indeed good news for runners as the next Penang Bridge marathon will be free from construction work on the bridge. For the newly completed 3-lane bridge, it will be wide enough even for expanded participation from more runners.

Cool Man!

It is a rare occasion where two movies that are currently showing in the local cinema circuit bearing the same partial name of Man - Ip Man and Yes Man.

To make it even more interesting, the latest blockbuster, Australia, acted by Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman - both have "man" in their names. So it is the congruence of title of movies and name of actors having the "man" in them.
.
Ip Man - The story is about the grandmaster of Wing Chung and the one-time teacher of the illustrious star - Bruce Lee. The fighting scenes are spectacular with loud sound effect. Recommend to watch.

Yes Man - Yes, I like this comedy movie. It is funny, entertaining, and feel good of watching it. By saying YES to everything changes the life of Jim Carrey (as in the movie). I have a hearty laugh watching it. Jim Carey is funny. His girlfriend (Zooey Deschanel) is adorable, pretty and with a unique voice. She likes blur photography. Yes! They take photos during running. Since I also indulge in running and photography, maybe I should try it out – on blur photography. With the feel-good feeling, I was hoping the movie can go on and on but it ended after 1 hour 35 minutes. Recommend to watch.
.

Australia - Yes! This is a must-watch, romance-adventure epic movie set in the magical landscape of Australia. It is a looooong movie - 2 hr 35 min but I really enjoy it. Nicole Kidman is pretty and Huge Jackman is handsome. Coincidently, the Ip Man and Australia has the similar subplot - the bombing by the Japanese forces that destroy most establishment and hope.
